About
Who’s behind Snowfox Notes.
Snowfox Notes is a small, independent project with a simple idea: your notes belong to you.
The story
Why Snowfox Notes exists
Notes are personal: thoughts, plans, documents, half-finished ideas. Yet for most people they live on the servers of big providers. Snowfox Notes is for everyone who’d rather not – without having to run a server of their own or study technology.
That’s why both things matter equally: your data stays on your server. And the app is so simple that anyone can start right away – it feels like an ordinary word processor.
The first version kept every note in full on every device. Today’s version has been rebuilt to put the server first: your server is always the reference, and for the road you keep ready what you need.

What we stand by
Three principles.
Your data, your server
If you self-host, everything stays with you: no third-party provider, no ads, nobody reading along. Without your say-so, no AI sees your notes either. And if you’d rather let us host it from 1 December 2026, you can leave any time with your export.
Simple for everyone
No save button, no syntax to learn, no onboarding. If you can write a letter, you can use Snowfox Notes.
Open and free
The source code is open, and the app costs nothing. From 1 December 2026, the project makes its money from hosting by us, never from the app itself.

Hello!
Dennis Wagner
UX designer · Bamberg, Germany
Snowfox Notes is made by Dennis Wagner, a UX designer based in Bamberg, Germany. For more than ten years he has been working on how software can feel simple and easy to understand – and that’s the yardstick Snowfox Notes has to meet.
After studying human-computer systems in Würzburg, he started out as a freelance web designer in 2015 and soon specialised in UX and usability. From 2017 he designed complex web applications and ran concept workshops at the agency PRinguin. Since 2025 he has worked as a UX designer in product management at a software company in the life-science sector.
He also writes about usability in the magazine Inside UX Design, explains the rules for accessible websites on Barrierefrei² and speaks at events such as World Usability Day. Away from software, he does 3D printing and photography and follows Formula 1.
